Hazelwood Cemetery Walk: African-Americans of Early Grinnell
Join Team Renfrow at Hazelwood Cemetery for a cemetery walk focused on the stories of African Americans of early Grinnell. The stories will include four direct ties to Edith Renfrow Smith; her grandparents George and Eliza Craig: her mother Eva Pearl Renfrow; and close family friend, Mumford Holland. Team Renfrow is made up of Professor Tamara Beauboeuf, Monique Shore '90, and Grinnell College students Hemlock Stanier '25, Libby Eggert '25, and Valeriya Woodard '25.
It will take visitors approximately 50 minutes to hear all five stories. Tours will start at 10, 10:30 and 11am and follow a set order. Note: This event will require walking between each gravesite and standing throughout.
Space is limited and your spot may be reserved by signing up in the JRC lobby. A shuttle to the cemetery will be provided, departing from the JRC, or guests may meet the tour directly at the cemetery.
